While the Shah of Iran was still in power, Bank Bazargani Iran produced a rubber stamp in shape of a large X and started applying on the current banknotes of Iran obliterating Shah's Portrait. There are two main types of cancellations: One overprint on Shah's portrait (known as one X), and two Overprints on the portrait and the wmk (known as two XX), with main colors of red and blue. The Central Bank of Iran objected to these unofficial cancellations and they were withdrawn. These are known as The XX Overprints, and they were in circulation for 2-3 weeks only. We highly recommend that you collect a few samples of these Revolutionary overprints. There is no detailed catalog listing of these banknotes, but XX has been seen on all the denominations, from 20 Rials to 10,000 Rials.
